Upholding History and Heritage
Sites of historical significance have been painstakingly restored and turned into tourist attractions. Like the Pinjore Gardens, built in the 17th century and the only Mughal Gardens outside Kashmir, located on the Chandigarh-Shimla National Highway is a heritage resort that offers best of facilities for tourists. The sprawling gardens at the foothills of the Shivaliks remain an all time tourist favourite. It especially comes to life during the Pinjore Heritage Festival that brings together competitions, recitals, traditional crafts and food. Similarly for the Raja Nahar Singh Palace, Ballabgarh (Faridabad) that boasts of luxurious rooms and is ideally suited for hosting royal weddings and social gatherings.
Kurukshetra is the sacred site where Lord Krishna preached the sermon of eternal Bhagwad Gita. Haryana Tourism has played a pivotal role in upholding the town’s legendary past and making it accessible to visitors. Neelkanthi Yatri Nivas and Parakeet in Pipli are some good accommodation options in the area.
Ministry of Tourism has identified Kurukshetra region, under its Swadesh Darshan scheme, to develop a Krishna Circuit with theme and sites related to lord Krishna’s life events including Mahabharata.
The Union Ministry has also approved major funds for the project ‘Development of Tourism Infrastructure at places related to Mahabharata in Kurukshetra’. many religious tourist sites like Jyotisar, Bhrama Sarvovar etc are a part of this circuit.
The Historical sites at Narnaul are a must visit for those bitten by history bug, other such sites include mahendegarh, rakhigarhi etc.
